Oak Marr Golf and Recreation Center, Oakton, VA
This facility has a driving range with grass tees and a practice bunker and the Par 3 course costs $19. The best part of this facility is the practice putting & chipping area all the way in the back behind the 1st hole of the par 3 course. This unusually large practice area is a great place to work on chipping and there is an uphill practice bunker all the way on the bottom of the green. The area is very well kept for the amount of use that it gets. I remember seeing Oak Marr mentioned in Golf Digest as one of the top 100 driving ranges in the country. One token for a 1/2 bucket of balls is over 4$ but if you are a resident of Fairfax you can purchase a discount package that will lower the price to 3.25$ a token. Wednesday night is man's night and you can buy 4 tokens for 20$.
Penderbrook Golf Course, Fairfax, VA 22033
This is my home course. The rates at Penderbrook can range from 19$ to 48$. I have golfed here countless times and have only scene a ranger on two or three occasions. Play can be slow during peak hours and it makes for a very slow round. If you are able to get out on this course on weekdays it is very affordable and play is very quick. The course begins and ends with some easy holes but there are definitely some tricky holes. The par 5 #4 is long and has an uphill green that is almost impossible to reach in two. The course has its share of short par 4's but there is usually a dogleg or a water hazard to make things interesting. Free play-arounds are available all the time and the loyalty club card (free) usually can get you a free beer or lunch. Greens and fairways are always in top condition however the sand traps are a major area that needs to be considered for renovation. Bring some bug spray too.
